ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus comprises a heated die wheel having a circumferential groove, and a series of circumferentially spaced bending, punching and hammering units disposed along the periphery of the die wheel and having respective working heads projectable into the groove to deform a filament of thermoplastic material into a row of continuous zigzag coupling elements. Each of the working heads is movable in a direction parallel to the the axis of the die wheel in agreement with the lateral oscillation of the groove when the die wheel is rotated.
