An apparatus is provided for creating an improved configuration of overlapping lengths or flexible thermoplastic strap to accommodate the formation of an improved joint between the strap portions. The apparatus includes first and second strap engaging members respectively defining first and second contoured surfaces for engaging respectively first and second strap lengths to position the joint portions between the strap engaging members in an overlapping relationship along an interface region and to position the trailing portion of each strap length to extend in a plane generally parallel to a reference plane with at least a part of the length of the interface region being non-parallel to the reference plane. In the preferred embodiment, the strap engaging members are each provided with a convex surface and a concave surface and are disposed to align the concave surface of one member generally in registry with the convex surface of the other member.
Appareil pour créer une configuration améliorée de longueurs chevauchantes de courroie thermoplastique souple permettant la formation d'un joint amélioré entre les parties de courroie. L'appareil comprend un premier et un deuxième élément en prise sur la courroie et définissant respectivement une première et une deuxième surface profilées pour se mettre en prise respectivement sur la première et la deuxième longueur de courroie de manière à placer les parties de joint entre les éléments en prise sur la courroie en une relation chevauchante le long d'une région d'interface et à placer la partie arrière de chaque longueur de courroie de manière qu'elle s'étende dans un plan généralement parallèle à un plan de référence avec au moins une partie de la longueur de la région d'interface qui n'est pas parallèle au plan de référence. Dans l'application préférée, les éléments en prise sur la courroie sont dotés chacun d'une surface convexe et d'une surface concave et sont disposés de manière à ce que la surface concave d'un élément coïncide avec la surface convexe de l'autre élément.
