A system for sealing an uncoated section (16) of a length of plastic-coated pipe (10) is disclosed. The system comprises a thermoplastic piece (18) shaped to conform to the uncoated portion (16) and overlap the pipe coating (12) at an interface (14) surrounding the uncoated portion (16), the piece (18) including a heat-generating trace (30) adjacent to its edges and the heat-generating trace (30) including a plurality of trace leads (26) extending therefrom. The system further comprises a clamp for applying pressure to the interface (14), the clamp including at least two compression bands (52, 54) and a cross member (56), each of the compression bands and the cross member including a plurality of power leads (58), each of the power leads (58) corresponding to one of the trace leads (26). The power leads (58) preferably automatically are placed into electrical contact with said trace leads (26) when the clamp is applied over the thermoplastic piece (18).

L'invention concerne un appareil servant à sceller une partie non revêtue (16) d'une longueur de conduit (10) revêtu de plastique. Cet appareil consiste en une pièce thermoplastique (18) dont la forme est conçue pour correspondre à la partie non revêtue (16) et pour recouvrir le revêtement (12) du conduit au niveau d'une face de contact (14) entourant ladite partie non revêtue (16), ladite pièce (18) présentant un tracé (30) produisant de la chaleur contigu à ses bords et depuis lequel s'étendent une pluralité de fils de tracé (26). Cet appareil comprend, de plus, une pince servant à exercer une pression sur la face de contact (14) et comportant au moins deux bandes de compression (52, 54) et un élément transversal (56), chacun de ces derniers incorporant une pluralité de conducteurs (58) correspondant chacun à un des fils de tracé (26). On met automatiquement, de préférence, ces conducteurs (58) en contact électrique avec lesdits fils de tracé (26) quand on exerce une pression sur la pièce thermoplastique (18) au moyen de la pince.
