INVENTOR: HANS-ULRICH STAUBER INVENTION: APPARATUS FOR FORMING STACKS FROM CONTINUOUSLY ARRIVING FLAT PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY PRINTED PRODUCTS, PARTICULARLY THOSE ARRIVING IN A LAPPED OR IMBRICATED STREAM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Below a stationary stacker device there are arranged two movable prestacker units which are movable out-of-phase between a receiving position and a delivery position. Within a stacker chute of the relevant prestacker unit which is located in the receiving position there is formed from the incoming printed products a partial stack. This partial stack reposes upon an elevationally displaceable support table. In the delivery position, by raising the support table, the partial stack lying thereon is displaced from below into the stacker chute of the stacker device. This stacker chute is closed at its bottom end by pivotable restraining or retention flaps which are pivotable about bearing shafts. The restraining flaps are pivoted back out of their effective position by the introduced partial stack. The restraining or retention flaps are elevationally displaceable and receive the partial stack which is to be introduced from the support table located in its upper end or terminal position and, during their displacement movement, convey the engaged partial stack completely into the stacker chute. Both of the prestacker units are arranged upon a rotatable support arm and are situated, with respect to a pivot journal or pin of such support arm, opposite one another. The one prestacker unit is fixedly connected with the support arm, whereas the other prestacker unit is rotatably mounted in the support arm. A sprocket wheel is fixedly connected with this second prestacker unit. The sprocket wheel is drivingly connected by means of a chain with a second sprocket wheel which is keyed to the pivot or bearing pin. Upon rotation of the support arm through 180° the pre- stacker unit fixedly connected with the support arm rotates about the bearing pin, whereas the rotatable prestacker unit rotates about its vertical axis, and thus, performs a trans- latory movement between the receiving position and delivery position. As a result, the partial stacks are stacked upon one another in a crosswise position with respect to the final stack. - 2 -
