ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The apparatus for generating compressed gas includes a pair of gas generators disposed in series and in alternating relation with water-cooled coolers. Water from at least one cooler is injected into the gas flow path within at least one of the gas generators. A steam circuit may also be provided wherein a steam generator is disposed between a gas generator and a water cooler with the steam turbine of the circuit driving a terminal compressor for compressing the gas to a final pressure and temperature. The steam circuit may also include an evaporator which is connected in heat exchange relation with a flow of gas between a combustion chamber and a turbine of at least one of the gas generators.
