Abstract An apparatus for mechanically handling a drilling equipment comprising drill pipes, drill bits and drill guide bush- ings, the apparatus comprising clamping means mounted unpivotably about the drilling axis of the drill pipe rela- tive to the carrier of the drilling device for clamping the drill pipe unrotatably; opening means positioned above the clamping means and arranged to be displaced for opening the drill pipe and to be withdrawn therefrom; an opening member provided in the opening means and arranged to be connected unrotatably to the drill pipe, said opening member being pivotable about a vertical opening axis relative to the opening means for rotating the drill pipe about the axis thereof. The opening means are mounted pivotably along an arched path about a vertical pivot axle spaced from the drilling axis for opening the drill pipe and away therefrom, the opening means being mounted ver- tically displaceably.
