The invention related to an apparatus for the containment of a contaminant vapour emitted by a volatile substance said apparatus comprising a housing having an air inlet and an air outlet; a circulating means, mounted in the housing, to circulate air from outside the housing through the inlet along an air flow path inside the housing and out of the outlet; a planar filter means disposed across the path of circulating air, said filter means comprising a photocatalyst fixed to a fibrous porous support; a light source mounted in the housing to direct light onto the filter means to activate the photocatalyst; and a reservoir means to accommodate a reservoir of said volatile substance; wherein said reservoir means is located in the housing such that contaminant vapour emitted from a volatile substance in the reservoir is directed into said air flow path at an inlet side of said filter means. The invention further relates to a photocatalyst filter comprising a layer of a mixture of a photocatalyst and an inorganic binder fixed to a fibrous porous support wherein the photocatalyst is UV activatable and the binder does not absorb UV light and a method of preparing a photocatalytic layer for a photocatalytic filter which method comprises applying a coating to a fibrous porous support of a coating composition comprising a dispersion of a photocatalyst and an inorganic binder in a liquid medium.
L'invention porte sur un appareil pour retenir un gaz contaminant émis par une substance volatile, ledit appareil comprenant un logement doté d'une entrée d'air et d'une sortie d'air; un moyen de circulation, monté dans le logement, pour amener l'air de l'extérieur du logement à traverser l'entrée, à suivre un trajet de circulation de l'air à l'intérieur du logement et à le quitter par la sortie; un filtre plat placé en travers du trajet de circulation de l'air, ledit filtre comprenant un photocatalyseur fixé à un support de fibre poreux; une source lumineuse montée dans le logement pour diriger de la lumière sur le filtre en vue d'activer le photocatalyseur; un réservoir pour loger une réserve de ladite substance volatile; ledit réservoir étant situé dans le logement de manière que le gaz contaminant émis par une substance volatile dans le réservoir soit dirigé dans ledit trajet de circulation de l'air du côté entrée dudit filtre. L'invention porte également sur un filtre à photocatalyseur comprenant une couche d'un mélange de photocatalyseur et d'un liant inorganique fixé à un support de fibre poreux, le photocatalyseur pouvant être activé par les UV et le liant n'absorbant pas les rayons UV, et sur une méthode de préparation d'une couche photocatalytique pour filtre photocatalytique, dans laquelle on enduit un support de fibre poreux d'un composé de revêtement constitué d'une dispersion d'un photocatalyseur et d'un liant inorganique dans un milieu de suspension liquide.
