ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved apparatus is provided for inside-outside quenching of heated steel pipe. The apparatus includes an immersion quench tank having a metal liner so dimensioned as to provide uniform longitudinal flow along the exterior of a pipe section to be quenched when cooling medium is simultaneously injected into the inside of the pipe section and into a region about the exterior of the pipe section defined by the contoured quench tank liner. The apparatus allows for improved quench uniformity over prior immersion-quench tank arrangements, thereby producing improved straightness of quenched pipe.
