ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for welding a sealing strip to respective inner faces of two superposed thermoplastic sheets and for directly welding the superposed thermoplastic sheets to one another by a weld spaced from and oriented generally parallel to the sealing strip. The apparatus includes a first sealing device having a first metal carrier body and two parallel-spaced first and second heating bands attached thereto; a second sealing device having a metal carrier body and a third heating band attached thereto. The third heating band faces and is in alignment with, the first sealing band. The second sealing device further has a resilient band attached to its metal carrier body. The resilient band faces and is in alignment with, the second heating band. A mechanism moves the first and second sealing devices toward one another for engaging outer faces of the superposed thermoplastic sheets by a cooperation between the first and third heating bands and between the second heating band and the resilient band. - 1 -
