ABSTRACT A device fox heating selectively either the lubricating oil or the liquid fuel of an engine includes a heat exchanger which is adapted to be operated either with waste heat of the engine or the exhaust gases or the engine coolant. The construction includes a fluid line passing through the heater or heat exchanger and connected to at least one of either the oil sump or the fuel tank and which includes a pump for circulating the liquid oil or fuel through the heat exchanger and back to the associated oil sump or fuel tank.
