A kettle (1) has a receptacle (3) for water to be heated and contains an electrical resistance heating element (4) for heating water within the receptacle (3). The electrical resistance heating element (4) has an electrical coupling part (40) coupling with a control unit (5) via an aperture (20) formed in the wall (2a) of the body (2). The electrical resistance heating element (4) is mounted to the body by a generally annular heat-resistance sealing device having on its outer surface (6a) a first circumferentially extending sealing element (6f) in the form of a groove sealingly engaging the edge (20a) of the body aperture (2) and the inner surface (6b) having, offset along the axis from the first sealing element (6f), a second circumferentially extending sealing element (6g) in the form of a groove sealingly engaging the edge of the head plate (41) of the electrical resistance heating element (4), so mounting the electrical resistanceheating element 4 to the body (2) to hold the electrical resistance heating element in place mounted to the body before the control unit is coupled to the electrical resistance heating means.
