ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is in the field of labelling articles and relates particularly to an apparatus with the aid of which pressure-sensitive labels (6) adhering to a carrier tape (5) can be imprinted and dispensed to be ad- hered to articles. The apparatus (1) comprises an operating lever (10) for controlling the printing mechanism (14) imprinting the labels (6) and for controlling a feed means (8), which draws the carrier tape (5) stepwise over the platen (15) around a peel edge (7) at which the pressure-sensitive labels detach from the carrier tape (5) and move into a dispensing position. In the rest position of the operating lever (10) the carrier tape (5) is held by a braking means. In this kind of apparatus it must be assured that even in a rapid succession of the operating cycles a high degree of accuracy in the imprinting of the labels in the apparatus is attained. By means a cam gearing (28, 29) disposed between a brake actuating member (21) and the operating lever (10) the brake actuating member (21) is pressed out of the carrier tape clamping position into the carrier tape release position when the operating lever (10) has covered part of its travel from the rest posi- tion towards the operative position while an arresting means arrests the brake actuating member (21) in the carrier release position and is released as soon as the operating member (10) reaches its rest position. The appa- ratus is used in department stores and supermarkets, where pressure-sensitive labels are attached to the goods or their packaging material, the labels being imprinted with, the article number and a price in the apparatus prior to attaching them.
