Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for injecting a predetermined quantity of fluid additive into a primary fluid stream. The apparatus is comprised of an elongated cylinder having a bore formed therein. Opposed heads close opposite ends of the bore. A fluid inlet is provided along with a fluid discharge and fluid bypass passages which respectively communicate with the bore. Respective one-way valves are interposed in the passages for admitting additive fluid to the bore through the inlet passage and discharging additive fluid through the discharge and bypass passages respectively. An elongated piston reciprocably disposed in the bore is provided for effecting displacement of a predetermined quantity of the additive fluid. Seals are interposed in the bore and are cooperable with the piston to form opposed fluid discharge and bypass chambers in the bore. The piston includes a passage formed therein and is cooperative with the seal in such a way as to bypass additive fluid from the discharge chamber to the bypass chamber during a fluid displacement stroke of the piston to control the amount of fluid discharged to the discharge passage. A unit is provided for selectively positioning the seal in the bore to vary the effective displacement of the piston means. This unit for selectively positioning the seal is comprised of a plurality of annular spacers which are insertable in the bore in predetermined relationship to each other and to the seal.
