ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus fox irrigating and draining an area, com- prises a water impermeable receptacle positioned beneath the surface of the area and extending beneath the area to be drained and irrigated, a porous layer capable of supporting a load and positioned in the receptacle beneath the surface of the area, and at least one flow conduit in flow connection with the receptacle for the flow of water to and from the porous layer. The porous layer has an inherent capillarity effective to cause water flow beneath the area, and a filter layer extends over the upper surface of the porous layer.
