ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for issuing a stored value card which is used in an auto- matic ticket vending machine to purchase a ticket therefrom. The apparatus comprises means for receiving an old card presented by a customer; means for reading the monetary value remaining on said old card; means for storing the value of the money presented by said customer; means for calcula- ting the monetary value to be granted to a new card from said remaining monetary value and said stored value; and means for recording the result of said calculation on a new card.
