An apparatus(100) for sensing an excitable wireless target(206) capable of being implanted in a body tissue. The apparatus(100) includes multiple electromagnetic field sensors(302) arranged approximately in a common plane and multiple sense signal output paths(306) coupled to the sensors (302). Each one of the sensors(302) and signal output paths(306) is configured to provide an output signal representing at least a portion of an electromagnetic field provided by the marker(206).
