APPARATUS FOR MAGNETICALLY RECORDING AND/OR REPRODUCING VIDEO SIGNALS AND WHICH HAS A STILL MOTION REPRODUCING MODE OF OPERATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an apparatus in which a magnetic tape extends between supply and take-up tape reels in a helical path about at least a portion of the periphery of a guide drum having one or more rotary magnetic heads, a capstan and a pinch roller drive the tape longitudinally during recording and normal reproducing operations, so that video signals are recorded and normally reproduced from parallel tracks extending obliquely across the tape. For a still motion reproducing operation, the pinch roller is moved away from the capstan and a brake applied to a tape reel to halt the driven movement of the tape and thereby permit the heads to scan and reproduce the signals recorded in one of the oblique tracks repeatedly. A manually actuable device is provided to shift the longitudinal position of the tape relative to the path of the rotary magnetic heads during such still motion reproducing operation to best align the path of the heads with the one track for the best signal reproduction. The manually actuable device includes an angularly displaceable drive member for engaging a surface on a support member of one tape reel, preferably with wedge-like engagement, for overriding the brake and rotating the tape reel to reposition the tape.
