Title: Apparatus for making a tomogram Abstract of the disclosure: Apparatus for making a tomogram with a detector surface having such an extent that it can fully intercept a spatial X-ray beam emanating from an X-ray source, disposed in juxtaposition to said detector surface, the beam being fan-shaped in cross-section. The apparatus is used for making a tomogram from a slice-shaped section of an object, the beam having a thickness to match the thickness of the section. During exposure, the object is rotated relatively to the X-ray source and the detector surface about an axis normal to the plane of the beam. If the section is of a width exceeding that of the beam, the object is placed so that the axis of rotation lies adjacent to one of the divergent edges of the beam, and the object is rotated through 360° during exposure. If the width of the section is small enough, the object may be positioned so that the section is exposed to the beam throughout, and the object is rotated through 180°. The arrangement permits the use of a relatively small detector surface, which has various advantages, such as relatively inexpensive construction, low dosage of radiation, and high resolution.
