ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes an apparatus for manufacturing steel fibres comprising: a pair of pulling rolls for drawing out a steel strip from a coil; a slitter for continuously cutting said steel strip drawn out by said pulling rolls into a plurality of parallel ribbonlike steel strips; and cutting means including a stationary blade, a pair of speed adjustable pinch rolls for feeding said ribbon- like steel strips onto the stationary blade, rotary blade means having a plurality of rotary blades mounted on the peripheral surface of a rotary cylindrical body at equal intervals and parallel to the axis of said rotary cylindrical body, the arrangement being such that in use a predetermined gap is maintained between the edge of each said rotary blade and said stationary blade, and cooling means being provided for said rotary blade means and said stationary blade.
