An apparatus for manufacturing thermoplastic resin foam pellets is disclosed. This apparatus continuously produces desired thermoplastic resin foam pellets from a high viscosity thermoplastic resin in commercial quantity. The apparatus includes a hollow cylindrical die (11) having a plurality of radial extrusion ports (23) at its outlet end portion. A torpedo (17) is axially set within the die (11) to form a resin passage within the die. In an embodiment, the cutting means consists of motor-driven steel wires (30) spirally extending along the rounded external surface of the die (11) at a position around the radial extrusion ports (23) while coming into close contact with the rounded external surface of the die. In another embodiment, the cutting means consists of motor-driven movable rods (5) axially arranged inside the die (1) to be axially reciprocable along the die, with a plurality of pairs of holes (6a, 6b) being formed on each of the movable rods (5) so that they each alternately communicate with one of two neighboring radial extrusion ports (4) in accordance with an axial reciprocating action of each movable rod (5).
L'invention concerne un appareil destiné à la fabrication de granules en mousse de résine thermoplastique. Cet appareil permet de produire, en continu et en quantités industrielles, les granules en mousse de résine thermoplastique voulues à partir d'une résine thermoplastique haute viscosité. Ledit appareil comprend une matrice (11) cylindrique creuse dont l'extrémité de sortie est pourvue d'une pluralité d'orifices (23) d'extrusion radiaux. Une torpille (17) est disposée axialement dans la matrice (11) de manière à former un passage destiné à la résine dans la matrice. Selon un mode de réalisation, les moyens de découpe se présentent sous la forme de fils (30) d'acier commandés par moteur, qui s'étendent en spirale sur tout le pourtour de la surface externe arrondie de la matrice (11) au niveau des orifices (23) d'extrusion radiaux, tout en venant au contact étroit de la surface externe arrondie de la matrice. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, les moyens de découpe se présentent sous la forme de tiges (5) mobiles commandées par moteur, qui sont disposées axialement à l'intérieur de la matrice (11) de manière à adopter un mouvement alternatif axial le long de la matrice, une pluralité de paires d'alésages (6a, 6b) étant formée sur chacune des tiges (5) mobiles de manière que celles-ci communiquent les unes après les autres avec l'un des deux orifices (4) d'extrusion radiaux avoisinants, en fonction du mouvement alternatif axial de chaque (5) mobile.
