To measure a distance between two running vehicle, a measurement signal is first generated by irradiating light beam toward an article to be measured and then receiving the reflected light beam from the article. An apparatus for determining the forgoing distance therebetween using light wave operates such that a reference signal and the measurement signal generated in that way are input a digital mix-down circuit composed of two-stage flip-flop circuits to determine a phase difference between the reference signal and the measurement. The apparatus includes as essential components a clock delay circuit for delaying the going-high edge of the measurement signal while the reference signal is going high at an output terminal of a flip-flop circuit on the input side of the digital mix-down circuit and a data delay circuit for delaying the going-down edge of the reference signal input into a data terminal of the flip-flop circuit. Usually, the clock delay circuit is electrically connected to the digital mix-down circuit via the data delay circuit, while the data delay circuit is electrically connected directly to the digital mix-down circuit. Alternatively, both the clock delay circuit and the data delay circuit may electrically be connected directly to the digital mix-down circuit.
Pour mesurer la distance entre deux véhicules en mouvement, on envoie un premier signal produit par un faisceau lumineux irradiant en direction de l'objet dont on veut mesurer la distance et en captant le faisceau réfléchi par cet objet. Le dispositif utilisé pour déterminer la distance au moyen de l'onde lumineuse fait appel à un signal de référence et au signal de mesure produit, qui sont envoyés à un circuit de mixage numérique constitué de circuits à bascule à deux étages servant à déterminer une différence de phase entre le signal de référence et le signal de mesure. Les composants essentiels du dispositif sont un circuit d'horloge servant à retarder le moment fort du signal de mesure pendant que le signal de référence est fort à la borne de sortie du circuit à bascule (à l'entrée du circuit de mixage numérique), ainsi qu'un circuit de données servant à retarder le moment faible du signal de référence fourni à la borne de données du circuit à bascule pendant que le circuit de données à retard est raccordé électriquement et directement au circuit de mixage numérique. On peut, en outre, raccorder directement le circuit d'horloge et le circuit de données à retard au circuit de mixage numérique.
