ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The apparatus for measuring the amount of oxygen or combustibles in a gas includes a first catalytic sensor that measures the amount of oxygen or combustibles present in a stoichiometric ratio of the gas and a electro- chemical sensor having a single electrochemical cell that measures the quantitative amount of oxygen or combustibles remaining in a sample of gas after the stoichiometric amounts of oxygen or combustibles have been burned. The first and second sensors are electrically connected in a manner to determine the total amounts of oxygen or com- bustibles in the gas. The method includes first measuring the amount of oxygen and combustibles present in stoichio- metric ratio in a gas and thereafter measuring the amount of oxygen or combustibles in a gas in a single electro- chemical cell after the stoichiometric amounts of oxygen.
