ABSTRACT A method characterized in that the oxygen applicator is so constructed that it supplies pure oxygen in a directed flow and solely via the nose and in that the apparatus additionally comprises a oneway valve which can be inserted in substantially sealing-tight manner into the mouth of the patient, the one-way valve opening only upon gas outflow, otherwise closing and allowing excess oxygen and expired air to escape solely through the mouth.
