TITLE OF THE INVENTION "APPARATUS FOR PLACING ELONGATE ELECTRICAL INSULATORS ON THE FLANGES OF RAILWAY RAILS" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Beside railway rails there are upward projections which locate the rails and receive parts of clips which hold the rails down by pressing on elongate insulators laid on the flanges of the rails. The insulators each have two spaced apart projections between which portions of the upward projections lie. Apparatus for placing the insulators on the flanges of the rails comprises holding means capable of holding by a resilient bias an insulator and means whereby the holding means moves firstly with a component of motion in one direction parallel to the rail and secondly with a component of motion in the opposite direction parallel to the rail and whereby the holding means also descends. Thus the insulator moves with a component of motion in said one direction and one of the projections on the insulator descends and catches on one side of one of the upward projections and the insulator cannot then follow the movement of the holding means, this movement of the holding means causing the holding means to change the angular orientation of the insulator with respect to the holding means which causes a part of the holding means to move against said resilient bias to release the insulator so that it falls into its operative position on the flange of the rail.
