A conveying system comprises a plurality of pressure vessels (5, 25) arranged in series, and a material conveying conduit (2) for discharging material from each vessel (5, 25) by entraining the material in a gaseous fluid. Each vessel (5, 25) has an inlet for the material closed by a disc-type combination fill/vent valve (9), and a bottom conical portion (6). The conduit (2) connects to each vessel (5, 25) at its conical portion (6) but does not continuously extend completely through each conical portion (6). The system supplies the gaseous fluid under pressure to the vessels (5, 25) by the conduit (2) to pressurize the vessels (5, 25) and to entrain the material and to convey the material through the conduit (2).
