An apparatus for positioning a tong comprises a piston and cylinder assembly (101) and a mounting assembly (102) therefor. The mounting assembly (102) is mounted on a support beam in the drilling derrick and the piston and cylinder assembly (101) is pivotally mounted on the mounting assembly. The piston and cylinder assembly (101) can be pivoted between an operative position in which it can be extended and retracted to move a tong towards and away from a string of tubulars, and an inoperative position in which the piston and cylinder assembly (101) extends along an upwardly extending axis with part of the piston and cylinder assembly (101) disposed to either side of the mounting assembly (102).

Ce dispositif de positionnement d'une clé à tiges comprend un ensemble piston/cylindre (101) ainsi qu'un ensemble montage (102) destiné à ceux-ci et monté sur une poutre de support de la tour de forage, l'ensemble piston/cylindre (101) étant fixé pivotant sur l'ensemble montage. On peut faire pivoter l'ensemble piston/cylindre (101) entre une position de fonctionnement, dans laquelle il peut être déployé et rétracté, afin de déplacer une clé à tiges vers un train de tiges tubulaires et l'éloigner de celui-ci, et une position de repos dans laquelle l'ensemble piston/cylindre (101) s'étend le long d'un axe s'étendant lui-même vers le haut, une partie de cet ensemble piston/cylindre (101) étant disposée de l'un ou de l'autre côté de l'ensemble montage (102).
