APPARATUS FOR PREVENTING REMOVAL OF TONER FROM TRANSFER IMAGES Abstract In a magnetographic printing system capable of transferring charged toner particles from a toner-carrying medium (e.g., magnetic tape) to a surface of a toner receiving medium (e.g., the front surface of a sheet of paper), apparatus is provided for preventing disturbance of the transferred particles on the surface of the paper when the toner-carrying medium is moved into contact with and away from said surface. The apparatus comprises an electrode arrangement disposed proximate to a rear surface of the paper opposite the transferred particles on the front surface. In response to an applied signal having a predetermined polarity (e.g., opposite to that of the transferred particles) an electric field is created by the electrode arrangement which restrains the transferred particles from leaving the front surface, thus substan- tially preventing their disturbance by the toner-carrying medium and their removal from the paper.
