An alkaline solution capable of preventing premature oxidation of steel wool comprises an aqueous solution containing at least about 0.1% (wt.) preferably about 0.5% (wt.) or higher and more preferably about 1% (wt.) or higher soap and having a pH of about 9.5 or higher and more preferably above about 10 or higher, most perferably above about 10.5 or higher. Steel wool completely immersed in certain solution which does not rust for 2 weeks or longer. The solution can be employed in storage systems to prevent steel wool soap pads from rusting after initial use or to fabricate steel wool soap pads wherein the products are packaged in said solution.
Une solution aqueuse alcaline permettant de prévenir l'oxydation prématurée de la laine d'acier renferme au moins 0,1 % (en poids) environ, et de préférence 0,5 % (en poids) environ ou plus, et, selon une version encore plus privilégiée, 1 % (en poids) environ ou plus de savon, avec un pH d'environ 9,5 ou plus, et de préférence d'environ 10 ou plus, et, selon une version encore plus privilégiée, 10,5 ou plus. La laine d'acier complètement immergée dans cette solution ne rouille pas pendant 2 semaines ou plus. La solution peut être employée : dans des systèmes de stockage pour empêcher les tampons de laine d'acier avec savon de rouiller après une première utilisation; ou pour fabriquer des tampons de laine d'acier avec savon, ceux-ci étant alors emballés dans la solution.
