A vehicle-installed supporting seat for a passenger (28) is provided, which includes a seat back (12) provided with an integral head-neck restraint (14) comprising a cranium support portion (16) and a cervical spine support portion (18). Each portion includes a layer of resilient material (20) supported on an underlying inflexible support shell (22), which together act to effectively define a contour (24) that interfits with the posterior contour (26) of the passenger's cranium and cervical spine. A controllably deformable energy absorbing crush zone (40) is disposed to the rear of the shell as to be compressed by the rearward displacement of the shell. The cervical and cranium support portions act to substantially simultaneously decelerate the cranium and cervical spine of the passenger during a vehicle rear end impact while the controlled deformation of the crush zone absorbs energy, to prevent whiplash-related injuries to the passenger.
On décrit un siège de passager (28) installé dans un véhicule et comprenant un dossier (12) doté d'un dispositif intégré (14) de retenue de la tête et du cou, composé d'un support cranien (16) et d'un support (18) de colonne cervicale. Ces supports comprennent une couche d'un matériau (20) élastique et prenant appui sur une coque rigide (22) de support sous-jacente, ces éléments définissant conjointement un contour (24) qui s'adapte au contour postérieur (26) du crâne et de la colonne cervicale du passager. Une zone (40) de compression à absorption d'énergie et déformation modulable est disposée sur l'arrière de la coque de façon à être comprimée par le déplacement de cette coque vers l'arrière.
