ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to an apparatus for processing the gas-main flushing liquor yielded in the coke ovens which obtains a watery liquid substantially free from tar and solids and a low-water-content solids-free tar. To separate foreign agents from the water and from the tar, a tar-separation group and a tar-cleaning group of inclined surfaces, with bottom entry for the liquids to be treated, and overflows above the two groups, are disposed in a common tank. The overflows are so adjustable, and the entries of the two groups are disposed at such a height, that the entry of the tar-separation group is above, and the entry of the tar-cleaning group is below, a tar-water phase boundary which forms.
