ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an apparatus wherein charged particles are generated by a discharge wire electrode and are collected on a plurality of spaced-apart collector plates at a potential different from that of said discharge wire elec- trode, the improvement which comprises intermediate collector plates not connected to any voltage source and disposed between but insulated from the first-mentioned collector plates and posi- tioned in the electric field between said first collector plates and said discharge wire electrode to have induced on said inter- mediate collector plates potentials between those of said first collector plates and said discharge wire electrode.
