An annular container mounted at the base of a passage between a layering tube and a central mandrel is charged with a layered tube of flexible tubing delivered over a floating mandrel when coaxially in contact with mandrel by driving rollers coacting with pinch rollers on the floating mandrel. The tubing passes over the mandrel and gathers in the layering tube while being compacted by two sets of shoes reciprocated 180° out of phase by rotating discs and connecting rods. When sufficient tubing has been delivered the floating mandrel is raised to enable a hot wire to pass between the mandrels to sever the tubing. The layering tube and central mandrel with the container can then be carried by a turntable through further stationary positions where the layered tubing is further compressed by reciprocable rings, a lid is put on the container to form a cassette and the cassette is discharged.
Contenant cylindrique monté à la base d'un passage entre un tube de mise en couches superposées et un mandrin central. Le contenant est occupé par le tube de mise en couches constitué de tubes flexibles passant par-dessus un mandrin flottant lorsque mis en contact avec celui-ci, dans le même axe, au moyen de rouleaux d'entraînement agissant en combinaison avec des rouleaux presseurs sur le mandrin flottant. Les tubes passent au-dessus du mandrin et sont acheminés dans le tube de mise en couches superposées pour être ensuite comprimés au moyen de deux séries de patins décalés de 180 degrés au moyen de disques rotatifs et de tiges de connexion. Lorsqu'une longueur suffisante de tube est fournie, le mandrin flottant est relevé pour permettre à un fil chauffé de passer entre les mandrins pour couper le tube. Le tube de mise en couches superposées, le mandrin central et le contenant peuvent être transportés par une plaque tournante à d'autres positions stationnaires où le tube en couches superposées est de nouveau comprimé au moyen d'anneaux à mouvement alternatif. Un couvercle est ensuite visé sur le contenant pour former une cassette, et la cassette est évacuée.
