ABSTRACT Apparatus (10) for producing microform re- cords from hard copy or a cathode ray tube image or the like fed from a selected data source, in- cludes an image-reducing projection (20, 21, 22) system into which is selectively directed light reflected from hard copy or light from the face of a remote cathode ray tube (25) to which white background CRT image-forming signals are fed. The reduced image involved is preferably applied first to a non-archival heat developable mask-forming film, like a dry silver film, and then the image on this film is transferred preferably to an ar- chival film capable of later receiving additional data on unused portions thereof and most advan- tageously arranged as a microfiche card. A cath- ode ray tube (25) smaller than the hard copy is positioned below but in spaced relation to a hard copy receiving platform-containing (17) or receiv- ing image field area. An image magnifying lens (28) system is interposed between the cathode ray tube face and image field area so that an enlarged image of the cathode ray tube face (25a), of about the same size as the hard copy, is focused in the same plane in said area as the hard copy would occupy if present on the platform (17). When the cathode ray tube image is present, the platform (17), which is preferably white opaque, is moved away from the image area so that the light image thereon is directed up into the image-reducing (20, 21, 22) projection system.
