ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A magnetometer which includes a coil and amplification device for amplifying a signal from said coil, and apparatus for providing in phase polarization, comprising a sensing device for sensing polarization current in said coil and for determining when said current has decayed to a predetermined level, a mult- iplication device for multiplying the frequency of said signal from said coil by a first multiple and a second multiple to pro- - vide a first multiple signal and second multiple signal, said multiplication device coupled to said amplification device, a counting device for counting signals from said multiplication device, a timing device, initiated by said sensing device, for : causing said counter to count said first multiple signal for a predetermined period, and then to count said second multiple signal, whereby said polarization current may be initiated in phase as known counts of said counting device.
