ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A catalytic converter having at least one porous mono- lithic catalyst body located within a tubular metallic housing and an elastic envelope interposed between said catalyst body and the housing. The envelope comprises a layer of material which, under the action of heat, expands more than the metal of said housing, and which during subsequent cooling to ambient temperature, contracts less than the metal of said housing.
