ABSTRACT A method and apparatus are disclosed for receiving and storing transmitted data in a confidential manner. The data receiving station is characterized by a device for producing on a record medium such as paper, a graphic image which is representative of a transmitted image. The data receiving station further includes a secure portion into which the record medium having the graphic image thereon may be transported, wherein viewing of the graphic image is substantially prevented. Preferably a containment device is removably housed within the secure portion such that a record medium transported into the secure portion is further moved into the containment device without permitting the viewing of the graphic image. Advantageously the containment device comprises two sheets of plastic material which are heat sealed about the record medium by heating and sealing elements housed within the secure portion, to form a plastic envelope. In this manner, the plastic envelope having the record medium sealed therein may then be removed from the data receiving station and delivered to the intended recipient, without permitting others the opportunity for surreptitious or casual viewing of the graphic image.
