ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for recording and/or reproducing a data signal on or from a disk shaped recording medium having a special track in which control information is prerecorded. The apparatus reproduces the control information at first when the disk is mounted therein, and stores the reproduced control information in a memory. A rotation control circuit for controlling the rotation of the recording medium is supplied with a control signal based on the control information read out of the memory and controls the rotation of the medium such that the linear velocity of the rotation is of a predetermined constant value according to the control information.
