ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: In a method of recovering the sensible heat of continuous- ly cast slabs, the slabs are guided through a cooling chamber in which heat is given off from the slabs to a cooling medium. In order to achieve a high heat yield and a low exit temperature of the slabs, the cooling medium is brought into direct contact with the slab sur- faces within the cooling chamber, and the heated cooling medium is used as a heating medium.
