A B S T R A C T An apparatus for varying the intensity without changing the color quality of light derived from an artificial light source. The apparatus is used as the main reflector portion of a lamp including a light source with a first reflector situated to direct light at the apparatus. The apparatus includes an arcuate row of pivotally mounted cylinders. Each cylinder has at least two surface areas of different reflectivity. Thus, control of the orientation of each cylinder will provide a selectively variable composite reflectivity for the cylinders. As reflected light constitutes the primary output of the lamp, control of the cylinders results in control of the light intensity output of the lamp .
