14 APPARATUS FOR REMOVING NOXIOUS FUMES AND GASES FROM A COMMODE BOWL AND PREVENTING THEIR ESCAPE TO THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY Abstract of the Disclosure Apparatus for removing and preventing escape of noxious fumes from a commode bowl (12) has a plurality of circumferentially arranged radially inwardly directed air inlet passages (18) adjacent the bowl rim for the intake of ambient air sur- rounding the commode (10). A plurality of circum- ferentially arranged radially outwardly directed outlet passages (24) are positioned below the inlet passages (18) for suction withdrawal of the noxious fumes mixed with the incoming air. The inner edge (34,36,38,40) of the commode opening between the inlet and outlet passages (18,24) is configured to create turbulence within the bowl (12) to mix the fumes therein with the incoming air.
