ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dipole separator, wherein solid or liquid particles are removed from a gas stream by an electric field generated between two electrodes and having a relatively low intensity so that no ionisation occurs in the gas stream. In order to increase the separating efficiency, at least one of the elec- trodes is provided with a coating consisting of a fibrous mat- erial with a limited electric conductivity having a large number of outwardly projecting fibres, such as asbestos.
