27 ABSTRACT: An apparatus for reproducing information from a track of a magnetic record carrier by means of a reproduc- ing head divided into two reproducing portions comprises an amplifier circuit having a first and a second input terminal, which terminals are connected to the outputs of the two reproducing portions, a first signal combination unit, at least one controllable amplifier, and an output terminal. The controllable amplifier(s) is (are) arranged in the con- nection from the input terminals of the amplifier circuit to the first or second input of the signal combination unit. Control is effected in such a way that upon application of two signals (X1 and X2) of at least substantially equal phase to the first or second input terminal respectively a signal is obtained on the output terminal which has an amplifier u which is in a fixed ratio to the amplitude of the larger of the two signals applied to the two input terminals.
