ABSTRACT An apparatus for reproducing video signals, wherein there is provided a circuit for position controlling a rotary head transverse to oblique tracks formed on tape, and a jump signal generated with reference to a region on a coordinate system defined by reproducing speed information and information representing a phase deviation of a reproduced signal is supplied to said position control circuit, so that upon completing tracing of a track said head jumps to an initial end of a track to be traced next, characterized in that the region comprises jump regions of a 0 pitch jump and of jumps of even multiples of a track pitch. - 1 -
