ABSTRACT APPARATUS FOR SHORTENING STABILIZATION TIME IN HIGH OUTPUT COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMPS A lamp assembly includes a high output, compact fluorescent lamp with at least two interconnected tube sections. A probe for liberating mercury is attached to an amalgam retaining cup, and the probe and cup are mounted within a tube section of the lamp at or near the center of the discharge path, with the probe extending into the lamp. The probe is preferably coated with indium. The end of the probe is preferably located in proximity to a constriction connecting the tube sections. The probe end may be curved for retaining indium or may include a starter flag attached thereto. During lamp warm-up, mercury is liberated from the probe yielding rapid and uniform distribution of mercury throughout the lamp.
