ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for sorting pieces of non-magnetic material from pieces of magnetic material comprises a first conveyor for a mixture of the material. The first conveyor terminates at an end adjacent a second conveyor with a gap defined between the two conveyors. A device is provided in the second conveyor for generating a magnetic field within the gap. As the pieces of material fall off of the first conveyor through the gap, the magnetic pieces are attracted to the second conveyor and conveyed away from the gap, whereas the non-magnetic material falls away from the second conveyor effecting the sorting operation. This apparatus is particularly suited to sorting wheel weights from lead tailings resulting from the manufacture of wheel weights.
