An apparatus for splitting rough wood sections such as logs with a splitter blade assembly, has splitter blades that are oriented in different directions. A main splitter blade, optionally consisting of a series of individual blades is in the shape of an open arc or an open arc-shaped polygonal outline normal to the direction of the splitting stroke, and the other, radial splitter blades extend radially outward from the convex side of this arc or arc-shaped polygonal outline.
