An apparatus for storing drill rods (8), compris- ing two drill rod cartridges (7a, 7b) each comprising a rotating rotor (13a, 13b) provided with finger boards, means (16, 17) for guiding the drill rods (8) into gaps (15) formed by the finger boards circumferentially around the axis of the rotor (13a, 13b). The rotors (13a, 13b) are arranged to rotate in opposite directions in such a way that projections (14) in the finger boards of one rotor (13a, 13b) are positioned in alignment with gaps (15) in the other rotor (13b, 13a), the drill rods (8) being positioned therebetween and then passed alternately with the rotor (13a, 13b) of the two cartridges (7a, 7b) along spirals (16, 17) to a circumference about the rotors (13a, 13b).
