Hydraulically powered means are also disclosed for mani- pulating the clamping mechani.sm and means are further provided for descending the positioning mechanism and the pipe-clamping mechanism and for lifting them as wellO A cheap~ safe and reliable means is provided to solve the problem outlined above much better than with the con- ventional piled up sand bags placed under the pipe sections which cross a depression of the sea bottom.
