ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for drawing taut a cover sheet over a box opening such as a truck box or walled building of rectangular plan form provides an external socket in a longer sidewall for captively storing a roller when the sheet, which is tangentially attached to the roller, is fully unwound in covering the opening to provide an external overhanging sheet portion disposed at a rain-shedding angle of 45° or greater, a torque being applied to the roller to maintain a seal along the top outer edge of the sidewall. When the roller is given a fractional turn additionally in the unwinding direction as by a swivellable drive shaft having a handle, it automatically locks under a lateral flange portion of the socket against the sidewall. Either an integral socket in a metal sidewall or a supplemental bar or angle section may comprise the socket. The drive shaft maintains sheet tension when it is engaged in a wall-mounted keeper bracket. A tensioning cord engaged by rings on hubs extending from the roller ends is housed in a tube under the socket to bias the roller toward the unwound position. When the roller is turned in the winding-up direction it automatically unlocks and swings out from the socket, then traverses the sheet roll to the opposite side of the box to stored position.
