ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for testing and/or repairing steam gen- erator tubes is installed in the chamber of a steam generator. A supporting leg extends between the tube plate and the bottom. For stopping the apparatus a tensioning element extends with a spreader finger into a tube of a tube plate. In order that the tensioning element is more easily accessible in the case of interruptions and that the probability of a jamming spreader finger tensioning sleeve is thus reduced, the tensioning ele- ment and the supporting leg are connected to each other via a coupling detachable from outside the steam generator. The tensioning sleeve formed by separate tensioning jaws is guided at its ends by holding elements. The holding element puts the the tensioning sleeve forcibly into its relaxed position during the untensioning motion of the spreader finger rod. The appar- atus is used primarily in nuclear power plants.
